We’re glad you’re here. Our goal is to ensure your project is successful. Here are some commonly asked questions that will make planning your project easier. We look forward to working with you!

  • What is the warranty of the materials?

Warranties vary by manufacturer and replace some portion of the product cost. For example, Sunbrella fabric comes with a standard 10-year warranty and Tenara thread by W.L. Gore includes a lifetime warranty. USA Canvas honors any warranty offered by the fabric manufacturer to the original purchaser. Please note that production and installation labor are not included in manufacturers’ warranties.

  • Is there a workmanship warranty for the frame?

Yes, USA Canvas warrants that our structural components will be installed in a good and workmanlike manner. We will correct any defects in our structural components for one full year after installation.

  • How long has the company been in business?

USA Canvas has been providing turnkey shade and weather protection to the North Texas area for over 50 years!

We were founded right here in Dallas, TX in 1970.

We love being a part of the city and are proud to drive around and see the thousands of successful projects in the area.

  • What is the primary service area?

USA Canvas installs structures in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and its surrounding areas. Outside of DFW we are often seen installing on large commercial projects in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and parts in between. USA Canvas will also ship our products to customers outside of our installation area!

  • What are typical lead times once the contract is signed?

Our Dallas manufacturing facility works solely on our structures from design to finish with materials sourced directly from local vendors. This allows us to have very competitive lead times, often shorter than other providers.

  • What should I expect the process to be like for my awning?

After contacting USA Canvas, expect a response back within a day from your project manager, these guys spend alot of time managing active projects in the field. This person will oversee your project from inception to completion.

During the initial conversation, your project manager will look to fully understand the design intent and scope for your project.

Most projects can be bid on after this initial conversation is completed and a few pictures are shared with us. Complex projects may require a site visit prior to drafting a proposal but most times, a technician will be able to send a proposal within a few days of the initial conversation. Once a proposal is signed, the representative will visit you on-site to finalize the details and take precise measurements. At this point, an expected installation week will be provided. The week prior to installation, the technician will reach out and provide the precise installation date and gather any site access details. The installation crew will show up on the day of the confirmed installation date and complete the installation.

  • How do I move forward with a quote or bid?

Contact the awning technician who sent you the proposal and let them know you’d like to move forward with project, they will walk you through the next steps including setting up a site visit to get precise measurements.

  • What kind of protection will a shade sail give me?

Shade sails are a great option for protection from harmful UV rays.

Shade sails can provide up to a 98% UVR Rating and 96% shade factor making these systems a popular choice for schools, parks, playgrounds, and covered parking structures.

The added benefit of shade cloth is the hail protection provided in light storms.

  • What are typical lead times once a bid is accepted?

Lead times fluctuate throughout the year based on weather seasons and local demand. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible to provide a reliable installation window before you sign a proposal for your project.

  • What are your payment terms?

We accept a 50% deposit to initiate a project. The final invoice is sent once the project is completed and is due upon receipt.

  • Are you hiring?

Yes, you can view our position on our ‘Work Here’ page or give us a call and tell us what type of work you’re looking for.

  • Can you products be customized to my existing building?

One thing that has been consistent over the 50+ years that we’ve been in business is that awnings need to be customized to match the as-built site.

We are experts at customizing our designs to deal with unique building site issues. In some cases, we’ll advise clients to make improvements or add blocking behind the wall to ensure mounting locations are sound.

  • Do you subcontract installation to a 3rd party?

We have our own team of professional installers who have the experience needed to ensure a successful project. If you do not need installation services, structures can be picked up from our shop or delivered directly to your site.

  • Do you carry insurance?

We pride ourselves on our outstanding safety record which keeps our insurance rates low! Yes, we are fully insured including workman’s comp for our dedicated installation teams.

  • Can you recover my existing awning?

Yes! We will measure, cut, sew and install a fully custom recover for your awning with the fabric style of your choice.

Unfortunately, given the nature of the fabrics we work with, we are not able to repair existing fabric covers in the field or in our shop.

  • Do you recover boat awnings?

We do not yet offer this service but can fabricate a shade sail for your dock or boat slip.

  • What's required for hanging a shade sail?

Shade sails are installed with roughly xxxx pounds of tension. Due to this, posts need to be buried about 1/3 into the ground and two thirds above ground. Posts are usually sunken into concrete footing 3 to 6 feet deep and 1 to 2 feet wide, this will vary depending on the height and number of sails, soil conditions, and overall size

  • Can you have your drawings stamped by an engineer?

We offer engineering services at an additional fee. Fees can vary from $800 – $2000 depending on project complexity and the level of calculations requested.

  • Do you handle permitting?

We do not require permits for our structures. If the customer desires a permit, for a nominal fee we can handle the permitting process for you. Permitted projects require a site map and drawings to be stamped by an engineer.

  • How do I care for my awning?

Hose down the buildup on your awning every month on a hot, sunny day. Keep shrubbery, vines, and charcoal grills away from the awnings. The vinyl surfaces are washable with a mild soap solution but do not wash your awnings with a power washer or a strong cleaning solution, such as an abrasive cleaner.
